ABSTRACT
This study was conducted with a purpose of proposing a utilization possibility of lotus leaf extract as a cosmetics ingredient that is safe for acne-prone skins and with no side effects. By measuring the lotus leaf extracts that were extracted with 50%, 70% and 95% ethanol as a solvent with paper discs and MIC, a 50% ethanol with the most outstanding antimicrobial property was selected as the extraction solvent. The lotus leaf extract was observed to have antimicrobial activity for the resident skin flora and antioxidant and antiinflammatory activity. In addition, with no toxicity, it is safe to the human body, and it is deemed to be utilizable as the basic material for the development of new functional ingredients for the management of skins that are susceptible to acne with minimum side effects.
