A study on the antimicrobial effect of the phytosphingsine on Staphylococcus epidermidis

ABSTRACT
Cosmetics had been regarded as a means that compensate for individual's beauty or appearance. Recently studies of cosmetics focus on the safety and the pharmaceutical effect, that is called cosmeceutical. Cosmeceutical has pharmaceutical effect, there are some problems in stability, safety, and resistance to antibiotics. This paper shows that antimicrobial effect of the phytosphingsine on staphylococcus epidermidis. Phytosphingsine is a kind of intercellular lipids and its structure is similar to sphingosine. S.epidermidis is a kind of skin normal flora. S.epidermidis also make skin diseases worse such as acne and etc. therefore, major purpose of this study is optimization of cosmeceutical type including phytosphingosine as an active pharmaceutical ingredient and antimicrobial effect on S.epidermidis. The results of this study were lipid composition influenced by antimicrobial effect of the phytosphingosine.
