The Effect of Sports Massage on Physiological Indices in Old Women

ABSTRACT
This study used the one-group pre-test post-test design and focused on changes in the cardiovascular system and blood sugar in the 12 elderly women. The sports massage operated once in 40 minutes, twice in a week and for 10 weeks. The results of this study are presented as follows: 1. Under the condition of NSM, significant increases were found in both heart rate and DP (p<.05) but no significant differences were found in the other variables. 2. The significant decreases in pulse pressure (p<.01) and systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, heart rate, double product, blood sugar (p<.001) were searched in SM. 3. A comparison between SM and NSM, after operating, all variables were significantly different (p<.001). In conclusion, sports massage can effect positively on the function decline of cardiovascular system and decrease in blood sugar for elderly women insufficiently exercised. Therefore, sports massage can be an alternative means for elderly people.
