The Effect of Male University Students' Body Images on Appearance Management Behaviors

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is the effect of male university students' body images on appearance management behaviors. The targeting subjects are 443 male university students who are attending universities located in Seoul and in the capital area. First, the body images of male university students are classified as 3 sub-factors such as satisfaction with the body, appearance-orientation and appearance evaluation. Second, appearance management behaviors are classified as 5 sub-factors such as hair style, skin care, body shape, fashion style, and cosmetic & plastic surgery management behaviors. Third, as a result of analyzing the effect of male university students' body images on appearance management behaviors, as the level of appearance orientation increases, the appearance management behavior is improved. As the level of appearance evaluation gets higher, skin care and cosmetic & plastic surgery management behaviors decrease. In case the level of the satisfaction with the body image increases, fashion style management behavior gets higher.
