Comparative Analysis of Quantity on Aroma essential oil - rosemary, geranium -

ABSTRACT
Aroma therapy has been genearally used to the extent that the public doesn't feel strange when they hear about it, as it has been expanding its application areas to alternative medicine not to mention about skin treatment. Accordingly, this study compared rosemary oil and geranium oil that are the most commonly used by analyzing their elements using GC/MSD in order to identify the appropriateness of aromatic essential oils that are used without any rules or regulations. The oils from 3 companies were selected for the analysis. In accordance with the analysis results, the quantity of Terpen in rosemary oil was different by company. The rosemary oils from companies E and L were similar, 38.26 and 35.79, respectively, while the rosemary oil from company D contained the highest quantity of Terpen, 53.73(Table4). The oil from company E has no pinene in hydrocarbon system related to scent(o), while pinene in the oils from companies L and D was 2.75 and 5.54, respectively (Table4,Figure1). For caryophyllene presenting spicy taste, the oil from company E and D showed the similar values, 3.42 and 3.72,respectively, while that from company L demonstrated the substantially low value, 0.98(Table4). For geranium oil, citronellol, one of representative alcoholic system, gives sweeter scent of rose than geraniol. It was 40. 70 in TB, while it showed relatively low quantity in other oils, 29.88 in oil from company E, 28.60 in oil from company L and 35.28 in oil from company D(Table5). Rose oxide demonstrated relatively small difference, 0.90, 2.42, 2.02 and 1.70 in the oils from company E, L,D and TB,respectively.(Table5, Figure4) In accordance with the analysis results, the elements in oil were different by company and from those in TB. In consequence, it may be required to establish the institutional guide on the standard contents along with the continuing analysis on elements.
