Controlling the salivary cortisol level of middle aged women by jasmine oil
ABSTRACT
Thisstudy focused on low levelofcortisoland observed theeffectofaromatherapy on middle
aged women whosesalivary cortisollevel wasbelow 10pg/ml.Thefirstexperimentalgroup was
themassage group with jasmineoiland thesecond experimentalgroup wastheinhalation group
withjasmineoilusingaromalamp.Thecontrolgroupwasthemassagegroupwithjojobaoil.The
studyobjectsweretreatedtwiceaweekfor4weeks.Thestressweremeasuredbeforetheexperimentandafterthelastexperiment.
Thesalivarycortisollevelwasmeasuredbeforetheexperiment,
afterthesecondweekofexperimentandafterthelastexperiment.Asforthemassagegroupwith
jasmine oil, the salivary cortisol level increased significantly and the stress was relieved
significantly.Asfortheinhalationgroupwith jasmineoil,thesalivary cortisollevelincreasedsignificantly
from thesecondweek,butin thefourth week itdecreased.And thestresswasrelieved
significantly.Itwassupposedthatjasmonoidofjasmineoilwhichsignaledresponsesofstressesin
plantsstimulatedthesecretionofcortisolinhumanbody.Asforthemassagegroupwithjojobaoil,
therewasnosignificantchange.Conclusively,themassagetreatmentwithjasmineoilwaseffective
forcontrolling thesalivary cortisollevelandrelieving stressinmiddleagedwomenbecauseofthe
synegyeffectbetweentheingredient,"jasmonoid"andtheapplicationmethod,"massage."
