ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of high-frequency therapy and swedish massage up on the alleviation of trapezius muscle pain and stress of university hospital nurses when it was applied to the trapezius muscle's pain trigger point, in order to work out a basis of using it as a new intervening strategy of stress. As for the method of experiment, the experiment group was received total 6 sessions of treatment (20 minutes of high-frequency therapy and 10 minutes of manual therapy /per treatment) for three weeks(twice weekly). The control group was also received total 6 sessions of treatment (20 minutes' rest after the application of muscle relaxant cream and 10 minutes of manual therapy /per treatment) for three weeks (twice weekly). The subjective pain indicator, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, the number of pulse, and pain threshold were measured before experiment and one, two and three weeks after experiment. Study findings are as follows: As for the pain rate, the experiment group experiences its significant reduction comparing to the control group and there is significant difference by sessions. As for blood pressure, the experiment group experiences its decrease but there is no significant difference by sessions. As for diastolic blood pressure and pulse, both groups experience its reduction, but there is no significant difference by sessions. As for pain threshold, the experiment group experiences its significant rise comparing to the control group and there is significant difference by sessions. In conclusion, both high-frequency therapy and swedish massage are significantly effective in the alleviation of trapezius muscle pain and stress. When high-frequency therapy is used based on swedish massage the alleviation of trapezius muscle pain and stress is more effective. Therefore, high-frequency therapy seems to be a new intervening strategy for nurses' trapezius muscle pain alleviation and muscle relaxation.
