Effect of Combined Plant Extracts on Anti-obesity in Rats Fed a High-Fat Diet |

ABSTRACT |
This study was conducted to investigate the anti-obesity of combined plant extracts(Mori folium
and Mori cortex radicis, 7:3) in male Sprague-Dawley rats(180 ± 3 g) fed high fat diets for 8 week.
Experimental groups were divided into 5 groups; a normal diet group(ND), a high fat diet
group(HFD), a high fat diet and combined plant extracts 1% group(HFD+ 1%), a high fat diet and
combined plant extracts 3% group(HFD+3%) and a high fat diet and combined plant extracts 5%
group(HFD+5%). The body weight of HFD group were heavier than those of ND group, whereas
those of groups administered combined plant extracts were gradually decreased after 6 weeks. The
activity of serum AST that were significantly increased by the high fat diet were significantly decreased
after combined plant extracts administration. Levels of serum triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol
significantly reduced in the combined plant extracts administered groups compared with HFD
group. There were no differences in the levels of serum total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol between
experimental groups. Theses results suggest that combined plant extracts may inhibit obesity
in rat fed HFD. |
