The effect of Paraffin Bath and Contrast Bath on the Cosmetologists of the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

ABSTRACT |
In this study we had eighteen cosmetologists in Sokcho and Gangneung take the paraffin bath and the cold and hot contrast bath for four weeks to measure and analysis the change in the function of the hands and the wrists and the differences in the hand functions, pains, and satisfaction in their daily lives. The results of analysis are as follows; First, both the control group and the subject group showed progress in their overall functioning of the hands and the working of the fingers. Among them, the subject groups made more progress. Contrastingly, only subject group were found to be progressed in terms of the wrists movements but in the sensory feelings only the control group were progressed in terms of the wrists movements but in the sensory feelings only the control group were progressed, which is supported by the statistical significance p<0.05. Second, the subject group and the control group were all progressed with regards to the hand function and performance in daily lives. Of those groups, the subject group who took the paraffin bath showed much progress in their functioning of the hands that statistically supported by p<0.05. Third, all the control and the subject group revealed decrease in pain and increase in satisfaction. In particular, the control group who took the hot and cold contrast bath showed striking decrease in pain, which is statistically, meaningful by p<0.05. We drew a conclusion from this research that the paraffin bath and the hot and cold contrast bath proved to be an effective solution for better hand treatment and hand functioning among the cosmetologists.
