| Effects of (Eucalyptus) Aroma Therapy on Lung Capacity

|
These days, according to the increasing interests in complementary methods, studies about the effects of aroma therapy relating to blood circulation and heart rate to improve brain and lung functions and cardiopulmonary functions through olfactory sensation are going on actively. It is because clean air in nature is inhaled and dirty air in a human body is exhaled through gas exchange in lungs and when the pulmonary function is normal, nutrition and water can be provided without problems by maintaining the normal metabolism of the human body. Subjects were 30 women aged from 25 to 40. They were randomly assigned to three groups, experimental group(10 women), control group a(10 women) and control group b(10 women) and a study on the changes of lung capacity before and after the inhalation of eucalyptus aroma was performed from April 20 to June 30, 2009. The experimental group inhaled eucalyptus aroma three times in a day, once in a week for ten weeks and the lung capacity before and after the inhalation of eucalyptus aroma was measured. The control group a got abdomen massages using eucalyptus aroma three times in a day, once a week for ten weeks and the lung capacity before and after the inhalation of eucalyptus aroma was measured. The control group a didn't use aroma and the lung capacity was measured ten times. The FVC(forced vital capacity) of experimental group was increased from 73.96(before the experiment) to 103.33(after the experiment) by 29.37(39.7%). The control group a was increased from 77.36(before the experiment) to 100.28(after the experiment) by 22.92(29.6%).It indicates that aroma therapy has a good effect on the increase of lung capacity.
