An Empirical Study on How to Increase the Productivity of Cosmetic Manufacturing Workers thru Their Academic Achievement

ABSTRACT
Embracing wide scope of subject ranging from medical science, biology in life science sector, mechanics, electronics in machinery & technology sector to aesthetics, socialogy, behavioral science, distribution, statistics, the cosmetic industry has established itself without doubt as high value-added business in the fine chemical arena. Particulary in our country, market share for imported cosmetics has increased from 10% in 90's to 30%-40% currently. Imported cosmetics forms a lucrative market with competitive edge over domestic products in terms of price and quality. So, the local cosmetic manufacturers are striving to increase market share and to be a market leader, focusing on segmentalization and specialization of products together with new product development. An analysis of factors in chronic trade imbalance in the cosmetic industry indicates that it is necessary to address the necessity of continuous R & D for cosmectic production and more systematic industry-university-research cooperation. Accordingly, in order to boost the domestic cosmetic industry, it is required in terms of policy challenge that the customized educational programs be designed thru industry-university cooperation to foster professionals of cosmetic manufacturing; field training be offered to enhance the manufacturing technology for production of quality goods and to obtain systematic knowledge. In order to raise the national competitive edge in our domestic cosmetic industry, change in terms of new organizational culture, which is different from what it used to be, is expected; besides, manufacturing workers themselves also are getting more and more interested in the company they are working for and choose a job category that matches their aptitude, feeling deeply the necessity of professional education that helps them become experts in the field. In this regard, this study is designed for the follwing purposes: Find out current problems which these workers with lack of professional expertise face at work. Provide some ways to achieve their academic desire by way of university education with wide range of specialized programs they need. Enhance workers'competence required by the companies and the consequent change of mentality of workers as professionals. Address the absence of field education for employees, contents of education the companies want for their employees. Analyze the quality and satisfaction level of ongoing field education, the level of basic knowledge retained by the field workers. Figure out which direction, the overall educational course should pursue. Thru this process, this study will help provide basic materials created thru industry-university cooperation to use for pre-employment education for cosmetic manufacturing workers and also create systematic educational programs, identify workforce with excellence to put into the cosmetic industry. In conclusion, this study aims at helping create a positive educational envrionment in which win-win strategy for both industry and university will be actualized, making contribution to the national progress ultimately.
