ABSTRACT |
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of fatigue-related factors, anti-oxidant enzymes and hormonal changes developed during whole meridian massage therapy in middle-aged women. It was prospective randomized controlled trial study that conducted on 16 women, 30 to 55 years old, recruited from a S vocational institute in Suwon City. The participants were divided randomly into two groups. Whereas 8 of them received meridian massage therapy group (Group1, control group), the other 8 underwent meridian massage therapy group (Group2, experimental group) after onion juice intake. The blood samples were taken from three times, before diet intake (pre1) and after diet intake (post1) and after meridian massage therapy (post2), analysed to gain detailed understanding of its outcomes. Effect was tested using repeated measures ANOVA tests. Post hoc analysis was carried out using Bonferroni correction for significant result. Significant within differences effects for whole meridian massage (F (2,28)=18.323, p<.001)were observed for the lactate level measure. Significant main effects for supplementation (F (1,14)=40.605, p<.000) on serum concentration of onion juice were observed for the GPX (F (2,28)=7.218, p<.003), SOD (F (1,14)=9.677, p=.000) and BAP (F (2,28)=8.020, p=.002) level measure. Therefore, it is plausible to assume that oxidative stress measured frequently in blood after the meridian massage therapy, at least in part, from the blood. These results indicated that onion juice intake could be used as an antioxidant for preventing oxidation of blood that can contribute to fatigue-related factors during meridian massage therapy. |
