ABSTRACT
This study aims at determining how meridian massage using hands as in most skin care and obesity control centers and the combination of mechanotherapy and electrotherapy using Endermologie affect on abdominal obesity control for women in their thirties. For this purpose, 15 skin artists in the city of Seoul were asked to visit a skin care center in 12 sessions three times a week to provide skin care thirty minutes a day. The analysis obtained the following results. The three kinds of massage all significantly decreased WC, WHR, BMI, and weight while the combined massage was effective in decreasing percent body fat and puffiness. All kinds of massage had significant effects on WC, WHR, BMI, and weight; among them, the combined massage produced the greatest difference on the average between before and after the care. Contrary to other kinds of massage, it was effective in reducing percent body fat and puffiness and also had significant effects on the decrease in body fat content and visceral fat. In conclusion, the combined massage is more effective in controlling abdominal obesity than any of abdominal meridian massage and Endermologie-using massage. On this basis, it is necessary to conduct further studies on diverse obesity management programs to control abdominal obesity.
