ABSTRACT
In this work, the extract of Scutellaria baicalensis and its key flavonoids such as baicalin, baicalein and wogonin were studied to characterize as a cosmetic ingredient. The MMP-1 production in UV irradiated human dermal fibroblast was tested using Scutellaria baicalensis extract and its flavonoids and it was found that the production of MMP-1 was inhibited at low concentration but reversed this phenomena at high concentration of extract or flavonoids. That went the same with experiments with and without UV. How baicalein and wogonin would influence kinase activity was examined, and the results showed that both the extracts are vulnerable to kinase while they are related to JNK activation. Considering what has been learned above, kinase activity was affected by different concentration of extract, and that should be taken into consideration when the Scutellaria baicalensis extract is used to make functional cosmetics in the future.
