ABSTRACT
In our previous study, we show that alliin increased collagen in dermal fibroblasts and efficiently decreased MMP-1. Since collagen and MMP-1 are implicated in regulation wrinkle formation. Therefore, in present study, we show whether alliin decreased wrinkles and elasticity in human skin. The clinical trial was conducted with the women in 40s-50s who met the selection and exclusion criteria, by dividing them into the control group of 20 that use the cream that does not contain alliin and the experiment group of 20 that use the cream that contains alliin. The measurements were taken at prior to product use, and in 2 weeks and 4 weeks of product use. The results of the analysis in the improvement rate of the length of crow’s feet showed that the experiment group had an increase by 12.88% in 2 weeks of use, and 22.14% in 4 weeks of use. The results of the analysis on the improvement rate of the area of the crow’s feet showed that the experiment group had an increase by 15.35% in 2 weeks of use, and 26.44% in 4 weeks of use. The results of the analysis on the improvement rate of the number of wrinkles under eyes showed the increase by 33.33% in 2 weeks of use, and 46.46% in 4 weeks of use. The results of analysis on the improvement rate of skin elasticity showed the increase by 26.20% in 2 weeks of use, and 44.15% in 4 weeks of use. The results show that alliin is efficacious in improving skin in terms of wrinkles, elasticity. Thus, the effect of alliin in improving aged skin was demonstrated in the clinical trial, and alliin is expected to have a value as an excellent anti-aging ingredient for functional cosmetics.
